You have decided that you want to order a beautiful bespoke wedding cake, but how and where do you start? My simple cake design process will help you on the way to creating an amazing cake.

You can be confident that your cake vision will be brought to life exactly how you would like it. After booking your date, a good place to start would be with sampling some of my most popular flavours from the Cake Tasting Box.

It is absolutely fine if you are not entirely sure of what your wedding cake should look like. That is the beauty of a bespoke wedding cake. It should look and feel like a reflection of you both and the love you share and we won’t always know what that is until we discuss it at your design consultation.

At your design consultation, we speak about your likes and dislikes, the type of styles you are drawn to and allow ourselves to be inspired by other elements of your wedding. These include intricate details from your outfits, the style of your stationery, features of your venue and even the colours of your flowers. There are no limits!

The style of cake you will find in the portfolio below is very classic, elegant and romantic. If this speaks to you, then you are definitely in the right place. If there is a design you like, this can be tailored to suit you and your wedding. No two designs should look the same as you both are unique individuals and your cake should reflect that.

    Step 1 - Reserve your date

    Summer dates fill fast—especially for bespoke designs. Even if your venue or final cake vision isn’t confirmed yet, you can still secure your place in my calendar. I’ll provide a tailored quote based on the details you share, and with a non-refundable £100 deposit, your date is held exclusively for you.

    Once your date is confirmed, you’ll receive a complimentary Cake Tasting Box, delivered to your door on the next scheduled postal date. It’s a delicious introduction to the signature flavours couples love—and a first taste of the quality and care that define every cake I make.

    Step 3 - Design Dream Wedding Cake

    Around six months before your wedding, we’ll schedule a relaxed virtual consultation via Zoom. We’ll discuss your vision, inspirations, and all the little details that make your day yours. Afterwards, you’ll receive a digital sketch of your cake design to treasure.

Portion Guide

How much cake you need for your wedding depends much on how you will serve it. A standard portion size is 1” x 1” x 5'“. This size is often referred to as a finger slice or coffee slice and is how your cake will be cut if you are serving guests later in the evening after the wedding breakfast.

If you would like to serve your cake as dessert for your guests, a larger portion size is more appropriate. A dessert portion is double the size of a finger slice and measures at approximately 1” x 2” x 5”. This provides a generous slice of cake that you would expect from a dessert.

The portion sizes mentioned above are ideal for most sponge cakes. However, if one of your tiers is a traditional fruit cake, this type of cake is cut into finger slices. This is because fruit cake is much more dense than a sponge cake, and so less is required to satisfy you and your guests.

The design of your cake will affect the number of portions that your cake will provide. For example, if your cake design includes a 6” double barrel tier (two tiers of cake decorated as one) it would produce double the amount of servings as a single 6” tier. Instead of serving 12 dessert portions, it would serve 24.

This portion guide shows how many servings each tier provides and will help you to reduce any wastage. It is also a helpful resource estimate how much cake you will need if you would like to keep the top tier for yourselves which many couples choose to do.

I work with a limited number of couples each year to ensure every cake receives the attention it deserves, from our first conversation to the moment it’s placed at your venue.

How Pricing Works

Each cake is completely bespoke, so your investment depends on a few key elements:

  • Number of tiers and size

  • Design complexity and finishing details

  • Flavours and portion requirements

  • Optional decorative elements (handcrafted sugar flowers, metallic accents, textures)

This helps you plan ahead and understand the value of a truly original, one-of-a-kind design.

To give you an idea, a couple will typically invest between £760 - £900 on their wedding cake with the additional decoration.

Delivery & Set Up

Delivery is personally handled to guarantee presentation, timing, and quality. It is charged at 45p per mile to your venue and back with a minimum spend of £35. Distances are calculated using Google maps.  Central London Congestion Charge applies where relevant.

NOTES:

  • Prices are a guideline; final investment depends on your chosen design and details

  • A £150 non-refundable deposit secures your date

  • Remaining balance is due 4 weeks before your wedding

  • All portion counts are approximate and will depend on how the cake is served.

  • Dessert portions are perfect as main dessert = 1 inch x 2 inch x height of cake

    Finger portions ideal for light refreshments or a dessert table = 1 inch x 1 inch x height of cake

For weddings booked more than 18 months in advance, final pricing will be confirmed at least 6 months before your date once ingredient and supplier costs are reviewed. This ensures accuracy and maintains the premium quality of your cake.

All prices include a design consultation, digital cake sketch, complimentary tasting box and a bespoke flavour selection for each tier.
