There's really no point in spending all of your hard-earned cash and precious time deciding on flavours and design, only for your cake to be displayed on a make-shift table hidden away in the corner. You want to make that cake stand front and centre because it represents you both and you want the world to know it! That being said, you need to think about where you want your cake to be displayed at your venue. Will it be on a table at the front of the dining area? Or will it be at the entrance to your venue so that your guests are wowed as soon as they arrive? Be mindful that your cake is displayed away from direct sunlight or heat source because that delicate sugar work, or buttercream icing will not fare well. You want the cake in a prominent place but also away from high traffic areas to avoid any accidents.
Your cake can be displayed on anything you want (within reason!). It could be a tree slice which is very popular with country themed weddings, a wooden box crate typical of a rustic or vintage styled wedding, or a large heavy based stand to support larger, more opulent cakes. There are so many different styles of cake stands to choose from and you should be able to discuss hiring these from your cake maker or your chosen catering company.
The table your cake will sit on can be as simple or as elaborate as you want, but it should compliment the cake without overshadowing it. Fresh flowers are a winning combination, but feel free to personalise the table and have fun with it. A great example of this are dessert tables, which are becoming increasingly popular with couples wanting to give their guests a taste of everything, and will look amazing in your wedding pictures.
I'm sure whatever you decide it will look fabulous! Happy planning! x
