Below are just a few ideas of what is still bang on trend for 2018
Below are just a few ideas of what is still bang on trend for 2018
Naked Cake
If you are not already familiar with this term, it is simply a sponge cake with your chosen filing, but without any icing on the outside, so that the sponge is exposed. These cakes are great if you are having a country, or rustic themed wedding. They look absolutely mouth watering when decorated with fresh fruit, and simply beautiful when adorned with fresh flowers such as roses and gypsophila.
You do not have to have all tiers of the same flavour, you could change it up and create a wonderful contrast between a vanilla sponge cake against a chocolate one, or a red velvet cake against a zesty lemon sponge.
White on white
What does this mean? Quite simply, it’s a white cake with white decorations. These cakes are very chic and elegant, and are made to stand out with the intricate details chosen to decorate it. As soon as you add texture such as ruffles, lace and embellishments, it instantly brings the cake to life, taking it from clinical to beautiful. This style looks great on taller cakes, and if you love a clean, yet classic look.
Double Barrel
Still going strong is the double barrel cake which you will have seen in many a cake design. They are two single tiered cakes stacked on top of each other with a cake board in between, which is then iced and decorated as one tier and generally at least 6” in height. The beauty of these cakes is that they are a great way to add larger designs that would not necessarily look as visually pleasing on a shorter cake. For example if you wanted your own personalised monogram on one of the tiers or a geometric pattern that requires space to do so, these would be a good idea.
Ornate
This style of cake is like marmite. You either love it or you don’t. The reason being is that some couples love a more simplistic looking cake, whilst others want it all - the more, the better. These cakes can be a real show stopping piece of artistry. They typically include elaborate gold designs that give a beautiful regal look. An ornate cake is perfect if you are having a lavish wedding and want to impress your guests.
Metallic
Who doesn’t love rose gold?? This colour compliments a blush pink or peach colour palette beautifully along with other metallic cakes that have continued to soar in popularity. Copper, gold and silver tones compliment a romantic, dreamy styled wedding theme really well. Once you add a a few fluffy peonies or soft pastel coloured roses, you are well on your way to a fantastic looking cake.
I hope this has given you a good idea of what is out there, but if however, none of these really appeal to you then jot down what does and speak with your cake maker to see how they can incorporate these into your cake design
