Alternatives to Cake

The idea of buttercream sandwiched between layers of sponge, iced with more buttercream (or ganache) beneath a layer of sugarpaste icing doesn’t really appeal to you. What can you do? You’d like a dessert served at your wedding, but you want it to stand out as different. This article discusses what options are open to you when choosing an alternative to cake.
Think small
Macarons are the perfect after dinner accompaniment. They are small, light, tasty and you could probably eat two or more without feeling too guilty. Macarons can be customised to co-ordinate with your wedding colours, stationery or flowers and look stunning when presented on a tower decorated with some pretty florals. After a three course meal, your guests will probably be thankful for a bite of these miniature delights.

If you kind of like the idea of having cake, why not opt for a cupcake tower. You can choose to fill it with mini cupcakes or the standard size and whilst it does still have icing on it, its not too much.

D’oh
Who doesn’t love doughnuts? They’re sweet, more-ish and definitely fill that sugar craving after a nice meal. Doughnuts at weddings are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to cake. They can be stacked in a tower shape so that your guests can help themselves, vary the flavours, or have the classic ring doughnuts with a sprinkling of sugar (or cinnamon sugar).

Waffles
No they are not just for breakfast anymore. Waffles are being served up at weddings as a tasty dessert that your guests will love. You can have them with just about anything - fresh fruit, chocolate sauce, syrup, sugar or ice cream. You name it, you can have it.

Meringue Kisses
These are lovely little desserts made from egg whites and sugar that, depending on your sugar tolerance can be a bit sweet. However, meringue kisses look so cute when made part of a dessert table, and can also be customised to co-ordinate with your colour scheme.

Love all of the above? Why not consider having a dessert table? That way you can have a little or a lot of what you love.
