Along with another new year brings the excitement of finding out what wedding cake trends are on trend in 2022. In recent years there has been a rise in intimate sized cakes (albeit due to government restrictions), more personal touches and more emphasis on eco-friendly designs.
Highlighted below are 5 wedding cake trends to lookout for in 2022.
You may have heard of these, marvelled at their design or seen tutorials of how these delicate flowers are constructed, but you may ask ‘what are wafer flowers made from?’ In short, their ingredients consist of some form of starch (potato or rice), oil and water. It has the ability to behave like paper and can thus be manipulated into various shapes and decoration. The flavour is very subtle and will not interfere with the flavour of your cake. The most beautiful, light and whimsical designs can be created using this medium.
Dried flowers are proving to be just as desirable as their fresh counterparts. Fluffy pampas, elegant palm leaves, lush ruscus and billowy reeds instantly add a touch of elegance.
Stencils are a quick and easy way to take a cake from ordinary to extraordinary. An amazing amount of detail can be introduced into your cake design through a well chosen pattern. All of a sudden you have a very classic, regal looking cake.
Neutral/ Earthy Tones
Neutral colours such as black, white and grey (and the shades in between) are colours that go with almost any colour. However, the resurgence of earthy tones (any colour found in nature that contains some brown pigment) makes for a very cool and chic wedding cake vibe.
Acrylic tiers add interest an a very eye-catching display. They can be filled with flowers (fresh or artificial) or used as separators to create a modern style or gravity-defying structure.
Remember, these are just trends and there is no pressure to follow them. If you love these styles then that’s great. Always keep in mind that it is about you both as a couple and what you want your wedding and your cake to say about you.
